Jim Jin
Jim Jin is Geek-in-Residence at Quest Ventures, a top venture capital firm in Asia. He works closely with startups to accelerate their growth through a combination of incubation services and programmes. Jim is also responsible for technology evaluation and horizon scanning for emerging technologies.
Jim is also director for artificial intelligence and special projects at Xiaomi, a Chinese electronics company that makes and invests in smartphones, mobile apps, laptops, bags, earphones, shoes, fitness bands, and many other products.
Prior to this, Jim was part of the founding team and lead engineer at 55tuan (NASDAQ) where he was responsible for technology development based on PHP, MySQL, Nginx/LVS, Java, Struts2, Spring and MyBatis. Before 55tuan, Jim was lead engineer of Jeehe, an events and social meetup site where he was responsible for the development of its recommendation engine based on Tag. Jim is also familiar with BonCP, Jedis, Dubbo, Shell, Python, Hadoop and HBase.
Jim was awarded a mayor scholarship by the city of Shenyang in 2008 and a national scholarship in 2007. In 2005, he was recognised as an outstanding top student in the Software Institute of the Northeastern University. He is a five-time recipient of first-class scholarships and a two-time recipient of second-class scholarships. His graduation thesis received the top award. Until 2012, Jim was also a candidate for a Tsinghua University PhD where he left to pursue real-life computing challenges in search and recommendation.
Jim has also won numerous competitions. In 2008, he was second in the American universities modelling competition; in 2007, he was first in Liaoning Province and second in the national students mathematical modelling competition, excellent award in the ACM programming competition in Northeastern University, third in chess gaming based on C++ and computing based on C#.
Jim has a Bachelors in Information Security from the Northeastern University of China where he was ranked at the top of his class.
